Valtrex.

Valtrex (valacyclovir) is used for the treatment of zoster and genital herpes in patients with that kind of infections. Valtrex comes as a tablet for oral administration and is supposed to be taken three times a day for a week if you need to treat shingles. It is taken for five days if you need to treat genital herpes. Before you start the treatment, make sure you tell your health care provider if you have any medical conditions important for determining your dose – such as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, kidney disease, liver disease, human immunodeficiency virus infection, or problems with your immune system. If you are taking any medications that may potentially interfere with the success of your treatment – make sure you also tell your health care provider about it. The following ones are important to mention: IV antibiotics, medicines used to treat ulcerative colitis, methotrexate, cancer medicines, lithium, drugs used to prevent organ transplant rejection, antiviral medicines, and pain or arthritis medicines. Taking Valtrex is not going to make you less contagious – so you will still be able to pass the virus to your partner. Make sure you take measures to avoid that.
